28 — CBM (ENG) Typical technical features The vertical position of the filters avoids any problem of steam penetration which occur from an incorrect stacking. Modern autoclaves normally use steam inlet in sterilization chamber, in a horizontal direction, so the container with lateral microbial barrier are preferable. Moreover, the lateral distance from other containers which are in the chamber is certainly greater horizontally. The reduced inlet surface allows to improve the quality of steam saturation inside the container. In fact, the percentage of water which lies in mixture breaks on outer surface, falling on the outside in the form of condensate. Since there is no need to protect the filter from condensation and dust that can settle on the upper part of the container, it is not necessary to use an additional protection (cover top), thereby reducing weight and costs. Accidental falls of sharp instruments will not damage the filter as it is vertically positioned. The permanent cartridge dimension is optimized according to the height of the container, to a low container co rresp onds a smaller cartridge. The permanent cartridges constant distance from the centre, for all containers heights, makes uniform the steam penetration and facilitates the sterilization process. The position and the reduced dimensions of filter blocks let the available load volume to be higher than a standard container (higher load height). Despite its reduced dimensions, the geometry of the filtering system allows, in most cases, to obtain a higher filtration surface than normal containers with filter on the lid.
